Sources say that former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is abandoning his bid for the Republican Presidential nomination.
The New York Times , who say Santorum will make the announcement in his home state of Pensylvania.
Santorum was recipient of the last and longest surge in support against presumptive frontrunner Mitt Romney, a tide that at points in the Republican primary had raised Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and , before they dropped out or saw their support erode.
Santorum had begun to set his sights on Texas' GOP primary, making s and making f. But now, as the Times writes, "Mr. Santorum’s decision will all-but clear the way for Mr. Romney to claim the nomination."
