Family meals, lectures and musical entertainment. These are a few of the experiences you might get at a beer garden in the 19th century.
Tonight, the Austin History Center is hosting an event celebrating the old-timey beer garden experience at , which was established in 1866. It claims to be the oldest continuously operated business in Texas.
The starts tonight at 6 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
History center Manager Mike Miller said the purpose of the program is to recreate a typical experience of what it has been for folks who went to beer gardens in 1870s.
“The event tonight goes beyond beer. It’s more about history and food culture,� Miller said. “We will promote a couple of local brewers that brew in an old style.�
The Beer Garden Social will feature an exhibit on the history of brewing in Austin, two presentations on brewing, as well as a free concert.
This event is a part of a series of events related to the exhibit at the Austin History Center.
